Andrés & Heather's Weddings

It Started with a Smile

It’s been said that the smallest pebble affects the oceans’ rythms.  That a speckle of dust can launch an avalanche.  That a smile can start an epic future.  Well, that last part I made up.

Andrés and I met online.  He sent me one of these ” =)” and the rest is history.  I was interested.  A third-culture kid living in Costa Rica.  Who played Scrabble.  Who loved serving in his youth group.  Who frequently used puns.

After getting to know each other through letters, we met via skype.  The awkwardness was short-lived as our first conversation went into the three hour mark.  But between the first and third conversation I wanted to know that Andrés wasn’t joking around about a future together.  It turned out, so was he.

So when we talked next he said, “Heather, I’d like to pursue something more than a friendship with you.”

To which I replied cheerfully, “Yeah!” So much of my enthusiasm, Andrés thought I couldn’t be serious.  He tried again.

“What I’m trying to say, is that I’m interested in being more than friends.”

“Yeah! Me too.”  My words floated through the air but seemed altogether too carefree for him.  One more time.

“Heather, I’m interested in pursuing a relationship with the end game of marriage.”

“Yeah!” I responded.  Hmmm… he thought if I didn’t get the hint by now, I’d catch it in the next conversation.

And here we are.  So incredibly thankful that God never shows up late.  That His provisions have been perfect in our lives.  And that we have the enormous privilege of following Him together.

Thanks for joining us on this adventure.

— Heather
